Honored Heroes

Today is the end of week 2 with Team in Training! We started dark and early this morning at 7am, and 4 miles later we completed this week of training! The best part of today's run came afterward. Team in Training hosts an Honored Hero breakfast, to honor specific people who are either survivors or are currently battling leukemia or lymphoma. Talk about moving! It was so great to actually put names, faces, and stories to the purpose of my running. Originally, signing up for this race meant accomplishing one of my goals. I knew it was for a good cause, and I was happy about that...but it never really hit me how great of an impact just training and running can make! And how much Team in Training has done and will continue to do for cancer fighters, survivors, and family members. So far, the North Texas chapter of LLS's Team in Training has raised just over $30,000!! We still have weeks and weeks worth of training left, imagine how much money will be raised by then!

So once again, here is the link to my fundraising page! Thanks so very much to all of you who have donated! Please, please consider making a donation and feel free to send my link to anyone you know. I promise you won't regret it! Thank you so much! Stay tuned for more running updates!

Here we go!!!

Today was the first official day of training for the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon! At 7 am, the group of people participating in this year's Team in Training races met for our first group run of 2 miles. I had kind of started to get really nervous about this, wondering what in the world I was thinking when I signed up for this!! Today definitely renewed my excitement! Don't get me wrong...the thought of running 17 or 18 miles in one day just for training still makes my stomach churn a bit. But as a group, so far we have raised $21,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's research!!! This is just in the month or so since that first meeting! Knowing that this race will not only benefit thousands of people with blood cancers, but selfishly, will also knock out one of the the things on my bucket list makes me very excited about running in May. So far, I have raised $685! A great big thank you to all of you who have donated! Please feel free to send the link to my donation page to as many people as you would like! I know I will meet my goal.

After the run today, a shoe clinic was held to help fit us all for appropriate shoes and clothing for our events. It was at this place called Run On! in Dallas. They had me take off my shoes, watched the way I walk, and brought out shoes that will be best for me. So with new shoes and socks, I'm good to go...for now! My goal is to blog about my running experiences every week or two, but I make no promises! Thanks again for your support, whether financially or emotionally! I hope you all have an awesome weekend!
